When you’re on holiday with kids, spending a lot of time in and around your room is inevitable – so best to make sure have something nice to look at. Here are 7 great places to kick back and admire the view.

- The Spice Island Resort in Grenada is one of the best places we have been as a family. The Seagrape suites open out right onto the stunning white sands of Grande Anse Beach. You can watch the children play as you lie in your hammock and, of course, nip back to the room when you need to cool off or grab a drink from the complimentary mini bar.

- And relax… From the terrace of Santa Maria, one of the apartments at the fabulous Caserio del Mirador in Spain, this is the view that awaits. Picture-perfect, your eyes wander across olive groves and vineyards but always land on the rock of Montgo, the Costa Blanca’s very own Table Mountain. Utterly serene.

- Most rooms at The Sugar Beach Resort, on the west coast of Mauritius, treat you to fabulous sun sets. With the help of the odd DVD or two, you can steal a crafty sundowner on your terrace whilst your little ones are merrily entertained – in Leo’s case, by Meg and Mog.

- The Four Seasons Sharm is a great place for a luxury kids holiday, with kids club, lovely pools and free food for kids in the restaurants. Plus it’s not too far away, with just a 2 hour time difference. The view from your room looks out over the Red Sea to Tiran Island.

- Not many places offer you a view of a wigwam from your terrace but at Montengrand, France, this is what you get: totally cool for kids, plus a wonderful large lawn to run around. There are more stunning views of the surrounding hills from the pool area.

- The Fairmont Mayakoba, Mexico, is a massive resort built around a lagoon. Kids love the golf buggies that ferry you around between the beach, the restaurants and your room; plus the pool area is magnificent, with slides and jacuzzis. Best of all, you don’t need to leave your room to get up close and personal with the wildlife. This (harmless) crocodile paid our terrace a visit one afternoon. Let’s just say, we closed the door behind us!

- Admittedly, we didn’t take our children to L’Horizon in St Brelade’s, Jersey. But we should have! A fabulous front-row position on this magnificent beach, with indoor pool for any off-days and some family-size suites. Looking at this, you could be in the Carribean.
