Emma Dadson, mum to Sophie and Thomas
What’s the best holiday you’ve had with your children?
Paris with Sophie when she was 2 – so much more doable than I thought it would be. Ditto Vienna. Also just a weekend in Dorset with two in tow….short and sweet. And Center Parcs, taking along grandparents and auntie /uncle too (sorry, really not very imaginative, but it works!). Actually….they’ve all been pretty great but then we haven’t really been too adventurous and have stayed within a comfort zone.
Where do you want to go next?
Dream holiday is Grand Canyon / US national parks…but that’s realistically a LONG way off.
What’s the one item you wouldn’t be without on a family holiday?
Thermometer and a week’s supply of ibuprofen and calpol. On a less maudlin note, the iPad, although crayons and a blank note pad for drawing are good value too.
My best piece of advice for other Trunki Files readers:
Weekends away work well…..stay a bit further out of town, in a business-y hotel with a pool on the outskirts. Rates are often quite cheap at weekend – we stay at The Village hotel in Bournemouth and it’s right on the Wessex Way, 10 minutes from Christchurch, Swanage, Sandbanks, Studland Bay, Aquarium….opposite Bournemouth Hospital, which is odd but then there is also the added bonus of the Air Ambulance landing. I travel within the UK a bit with work so I have tacked on weekends to visits to clients with really quite successful results.
