What’s the best holiday you’ve had with your children?
Skye – good weather, food, accommodation and plenty to do, all in amazing scenery and well worth the long trip. We will definitely go back. One of the nicest aspects was that despite being in the middle of the school summer holidays and with most accommodation fully booked, it didn’t feel crowded at all.
Where do you want to go next?
Our next planned holiday is to Aldeburgh, Suffolk – another cottage by the beach. Looking for simple pleasures, but a little bit closer to home than Skye! Further afield, I would love to take the girls to Norway – we went as a couple the summer before Charlotte arrived and both loved it – again stunning scenery, plenty to do and a gentler pace of life. Just need to start that campaign for the Newcastle-Bergen ferry to be re-instated!
What’s the one item you wouldn’t be without on a family holiday?
Bedtime cuddlies – Stanley and Monkey in our case, and a plentiful supply of snacks.
Your best piece of travel advice for other Trunki Files readers:
Be prepared to go with the flow a bit and let diversions happen – stop at interesting places on journeys, accept that playing with different toys in a different house will be just as exciting for young children as visiting historic monuments, enjoy the hours spent on bucket and spade play, and if you get caught in the rain, feel smug that you have good waterproofs and can curl up with hot chocolate and cake when you get back indoors!
